Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress (NC) Parliamentary Party has committed to implementing the agreement reached with the CPN-UML for forming a new government. The decision was made in a meeting held today, where the party endorsed the recent agreement with the CPN-UML, according to NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak.
The new government will be formed under Article 76 (2) of the Constitution. Chief Whip Lekhak stated that today's NC parliamentary party meeting welcomed and endorsed the decision to form a national consensus government. He emphasized that the new government would prioritize protecting national interests, controlling corruption, revitalizing the national economy, and amending the constitution.
Lekhak highlighted the need for constitutional amendments to strengthen and make the current system of governance more inclusive. The next government, he reiterated, would be committed to addressing issues related to constitutional amendments, federal democratic republic governance, and inclusiveness.
As per the agreement between the NC and the CPN-UML, it has been decided that the government will initially be led by CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, followed by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' is preparing to seek a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on July 12. In this context, the NC meeting directed all its lawmakers to attend the session and vote against the Prime Minister's move, according to Chief Whip Lekhak.
